Analytical Services

The IMI analytical department has a dedicated team of chemists and technicians operated a wide range of state of the art instrumentation to solve your analytical problems and provide a full support to the IMI researchers and manufacturing unit.


Corrosion Testing Services

IMI has a well equipped corrosion testing laboratory able to test your materials according to the leading standards. Our expert staff can advise you how to design your plant to avoid corrosion problems.


Inorganic Chemistry

Fertilizers and phosphoric acid play a leading part in the history of IMI, and the Inorganic Chemistry department can help you in fields such as beneficiation of ores and liquid-liquid extraction. We also have teams specialising in advanced ceramics and in powder technology.


Organic Chemistry

IMI is highly competent in all aspects of industrial organic chemistry:

  • Skilled and original capabilities in synthetic organic chemistry.
  • Ability to carry out process oriented research and development based both on creative chemistry and use of experimental design techniques for process optimization and modeling.
  • Development of new products for the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries.
  • Experience in patent protection work.
  • Proficiency in the use of all modern analytical techniques (in-house).

Chiral techniques are available and applied enzyme chemistry is a proven IMI capability. The research staff consists of organic chemists, enzyme chemists, microbiologists, chemical engineers, statisticians and skilled technical workers.

Plastics Applicative Laboratory

The IMI Plastics Lab offers the following services and tests:

  • Compounding – Collin (with 2 spirals at ratio L/D=24)
  • Press  - Collin (30 tons, automatic)
  • Extrusion –  Boy 25M
  • Mechanical Tests – Impact - Izod , Extension-Stretch – Instron 5567
  • Rheometry  - MFI (MFR), Density (gas-helium pycnometer
  • Flame Retardancy – under the following standards UL-94, LOI, CAL 117 A and D, German standard DIN 4102 class B2
  • UV stability – controlled exposure to Xenon lamp irradiation
  • Contact (Wetting) angle - KRÜSS
  • DSC, TGA, EDS, SEM, XRD, GPC, FTIR

Process Engineering

Process development at IMI is an interdisciplinary effort involving researchers, process development engineers and design engineers supported by a sophisticated simulation capability. The objective is to develop an industrial process that is technically feasible, satisfies the demands of sales and production as well as the ecological requirements. Particular emphasis is placed on safety considerations.
The engineering development team is involved at all stages of the project from the laboratory to pilot.

The Department is also actively involved in the preparation of a wide range of materials, ranging from chemical intermediates to advanced pharmaceutical intermediates. The development procedure within IMI starts with process research in order to discover, test and develop novel chemical reactions during the chemical production process. The procedure then continues to the process development stage which confirms the technical, economic and ecological viability of the proposed process.


Water and wastewater

IMI has recently turned its attention to the field of waste treatment, reflecting the needs of the modern world. Applying an interdisciplinary team approach, IMI has gained expertise in the chemical, physical, biological and engineering aspects of waste treatment technology. As a result IMI has developed waste treatment processes in inorganic effluent treatment, metal recovery, and organic wastewater treatment. IMI is presently evaluating a novel technology for the disinfection and treatment of municipal wastewater.

Within the framework of waste treatment, IMI can provide analytical testing facilities for most processes, ensuring that they meet the requirements of ecological authorities and international and local government regulations. The laboratory is equipped with specific analytical equipment to determine COD, BOD and TOC with emphasis on industrial wastewater and brines, as well as the determination of dissolved and suspended solids and volatile matter.
